Quick answer: Coupon codes for subscription video platform checkouts let a viewer pay less than the listed plan price for one invoice, a set number of months or the life of the subscription. Flicknexs supports Stripe promotion codes at checkout, a global coupon code and discount percentage in the admin, and a per-plan on/off toggle; coupons apply on the Stripe checkout only.
Flicknexs provides coupons and discounts as part of its white-label OTT platform. Flicknexs applies coupon codes at the Stripe web checkout through Stripe promotion codes and an admin-level coupon setting that each subscription plan can switch on or off.
Why coupons are the cheapest experiment you can run
A coupon is the cheapest experiment a streaming operator can run. A launch code tells you whether price is the objection; a win-back code tells you whether lapsed subscribers can be brought back at all; a partner code tells you which channel is actually sending people. None of that needs new content or a new app release. What it does need is a checkout that honors the code, a way to limit which plans it touches, and a record of who used it. Flicknexs handles all three through Stripe promotion codes and the admin coupon settings.
The catch with coupons on a video service is that the checkout is not in one place. A web visitor pays through your gateway. An iPhone viewer pays Apple. An Android viewer pays Google. Each of those has its own idea of what a discount is, and a code that works on the website will not be typed into an App Store purchase sheet. Operators who forget this launch an offer that the mobile apps cannot honor and then field support tickets about it. This page states where a Flicknexs coupon applies, and where it does not, before you plan the offer.
The mechanics on the web side follow Stripe's own model. Stripe's Billing documentation on coupons and promotion codes defines a coupon as a discount object with an amount or percentage, a duration and optional redemption limits, and a promotion code as the customer-facing string that points at it. Flicknexs passes the code the viewer types to the Stripe-hosted checkout, so Stripe enforces expiry, usage limits and first-invoice-only behavior. The admin adds a global coupon setting and a per-plan toggle on top, which is what lets you keep a discount off your premium tier.
What coupon codes do on Flicknexs
Every row below is in the platform code or in the Stripe checkout the platform hands the viewer to. The limits section covers everything else.
Stripe promotion codes
The Flicknexs checkout accepts codes created in Stripe, and Stripe validates them at payment.
Percentage or fixed discount
The coupon behind a promotion code can take an amount off or a share off the plan price.
Global coupon setting
An admin field holds a coupon code and a discount percentage that the checkout applies.
Per-plan coupon toggle
Each subscription plan carries an on/off switch that decides whether it accepts coupons.
Duration rules
Once, repeating for a set number of months, or forever, chosen when the coupon is created in Stripe.
Redemption limits
You set a maximum number of redemptions and an expiry date on the Stripe coupon.
Web checkout only
Coupons apply on the Stripe-hosted checkout; other gateways and store-billed apps charge list price.
Revenue reporting
Subscription revenue by month shows the effect of a discounted cohort against full-price signups.

How coupon codes work at the Flicknexs checkout
A coupon has two homes, one behavior at the checkout and one switch per plan. Here is each piece as the admin and the viewer see it.
The two places a coupon can live
A discount can come from Stripe or from the admin. In Stripe you create a coupon and attach one or more promotion codes to it; the viewer types the code on the Stripe-hosted checkout and Stripe validates it. In the admin there is a global coupon setting with a code and a discount percentage that the checkout applies to plans that accept coupons. Most operators use Stripe for campaigns and the admin field for a standing offer.
What the viewer sees
On the web, the viewer picks a plan, lands on the Stripe-hosted checkout and finds a promotion code field. A valid code updates the total before payment; an expired or exhausted code is refused by Stripe with its own message. Because Stripe applies the discount, the receipt the viewer gets and the subscription record both show the discounted amount rather than the list price.
Percentage or fixed amount
A Stripe coupon takes either a fixed amount in the plan's currency or a share of the price. Fixed amounts suit annual plans where a round number reads well in a campaign; percentage discounts suit monthly plans where the price may change later. The admin's global setting is percentage-based only, so a fixed-amount offer has to be built in Stripe.
Duration: once, repeating or forever
Stripe lets a coupon apply to the first invoice only, to a set number of months, or to every invoice for the life of the subscription. Flicknexs hands the subscription to Stripe with the code attached, so the renewal behavior follows the coupon's duration without any scheduled job on your side. A first-month code stops discounting on the second invoice by itself.
Limits: expiry and redemption count
Each Stripe coupon can carry an expiry date and a maximum number of redemptions, and each promotion code can carry its own limits on top. That is how you give a partner a code good for their first two hundred referrals and no more. When a limit is reached the checkout refuses the code; nothing in the admin needs to be switched off.
The per-plan toggle
Every subscription plan in the admin has a coupon on/off switch. With it off, the checkout for that plan ignores promotion codes and the global coupon alike. That is the control operators use to keep a launch discount on the entry plan while the premium tier stays at list price, and to end an offer on one plan without editing anything in Stripe.
How to set up coupon codes in the Flicknexs admin
Five steps, half of them in Stripe and half in the admin. Do the test purchase before you publish the code anywhere.
- 1
Connect Stripe
Coupons ride on the Stripe checkout, so Stripe has to be the gateway your web checkout uses. Connect it in the payment settings with your live keys and confirm a plan purchase completes and is verified when the viewer returns to the site. Without Stripe as the checkout, no coupon path exists.
- 2
Create the coupon and code in Stripe
In the Stripe dashboard create a coupon with the amount or percentage, the duration and any expiry or redemption limit. Then attach a promotion code with the string you will publish. Use a code that reads well aloud and avoid characters viewers confuse, because they will type it on a phone keyboard.
- 3
Set the global coupon if you want a standing offer
In the admin coupon settings enter a coupon code and the discount percentage it applies. This offer does not need a matching Stripe object, and the checkout applies it on plans that accept coupons. Use it for a permanent offer such as a student rate; use Stripe codes for campaigns.
- 4
Switch coupons on per plan
Open each subscription plan and set the coupon toggle. Turn it on for the plans the offer should touch and off for the rest. This is also the switch you will flip to end an offer on one plan while it continues on another, so note which plans you changed and when.
- 5
Test with a live code before you publish it
Buy the discounted plan with a test card, confirm the total on the Stripe checkout, and confirm the subscription shows the discounted amount in Stripe and the plan is active in the viewer's account. Then try the same code on a plan with coupons off and confirm it is refused.
Limits: where coupons do not apply
Read this section before you write the campaign email. Every boundary here is a support ticket if it reaches viewers as a surprise.
Not inside the iOS and Android apps
Purchases in the iOS app go through StoreKit and purchases in the Android app go through Google Play Billing, and neither store accepts a Flicknexs coupon. The stores have their own offer mechanisms which are configured in the store consoles, not in the admin, and are not connected to your Stripe codes. Plan a mobile offer separately or point mobile viewers to the website to subscribe.
Not on Razorpay or PayPal checkouts
Coupons apply only when the Stripe-hosted checkout is the payment route. If your web checkout uses Razorpay or PayPal, a promotion code has nowhere to be entered and the plan is charged at list price. Operators who bill through a regional gateway usually run offers by changing the plan price for a period instead.
No gift cards
Gift cards, stored-value codes and prepaid vouchers are not offered. A coupon reduces the price of a purchase the viewer makes with their own card; it cannot be sold, transferred or loaded with a balance. If you sell access through a partner, give the partner a limited-redemption promotion code instead.
Percentage only in the admin field
The global coupon setting takes a code and a discount percentage; it does not take a fixed amount, a duration or a redemption limit. Anything beyond a flat percentage has to be built as a Stripe coupon. Treat the admin field as a single standing offer, not as a campaign tool.
No free-trial days as a substitute
A common request is a coupon that makes the first month free. Stripe supports a first-invoice discount of that size through its own coupon settings, applied once. What the platform does not offer is a viewer free-trial period on the plan itself, so the coupon is the mechanism and the viewer still enters a card at checkout.
A worked example: a fitness studio's launch offer
Take a fitness studio moving its class library online with two plans: a monthly plan and an annual plan. It wants three things at launch: a discount for existing studio members, a code for a local partner gym, and no discount on the annual plan, which it prices to be the better deal already. In Stripe it creates one coupon that takes a share off the price for three months and attaches two promotion codes to it, one for members and one for the partner with a redemption cap.
In the admin the monthly plan has coupons on and the annual plan has coupons off. Members type their code on the Stripe checkout and see the discounted total before they pay; the three-month duration means the discount stops by itself on the fourth invoice. The partner code hits its cap after the agreed number of signups and the checkout refuses it from then on. Nobody at the studio has to remember to end the offer on a particular date.
The mobile apps are where the studio had to plan around the limit. Its iOS and Android apps sell the same two plans through the stores, and the stores do not accept the Stripe code. The studio's answer was to send the launch email with a link to the website checkout and to tell members the code works on the web only. After the first month the subscription revenue report by month shows the discounted cohort against full-price signups.
Pre-launch checklist for a coupon offer
- Confirm Stripe is the gateway behind your web checkout, since coupons apply there and nowhere else.
- Create the coupon in Stripe with duration, expiry and redemption limits set before you publish any code.
- Switch the coupon toggle on only for the plans the offer should touch and note which ones you changed.
- Buy the discounted plan with a test card and confirm the discounted amount appears on the Stripe subscription.
- Try the code on a plan with coupons off and confirm the checkout refuses it.
- Decide how mobile viewers will hear about the offer, since the iOS and Android apps charge the store price.
- Write the code in your campaign copy exactly as it appears in Stripe, including case, and keep it short.
- Check the promotion code expiry date is after the last day your campaign will still be sending traffic.
- Schedule a look at the subscription revenue report by month for the first full month after launch.
How coupons fit with the apps, the paywall and billing
Coupons are a checkout feature, so they follow the checkout. On the website the checkout is Stripe and codes apply. In the iOS and Android apps the checkout is the store, and the Apple in-app purchases and Google Play billing pages describe how those purchases are recorded against the same viewer account at the store price. Android TV and Fire TV do not sell anything; the viewer signs in and inherits the plan, discounted or not.
The paywall decides what a plan grants; the coupon only changes what the plan costs at one checkout. The video paywall page covers subscription plans, pay-per-view prices per quality level and rental windows, none of which a coupon alters. That separation is deliberate: you can run a discount without any change to which titles subscribers can watch, and change a title's access rule without touching an active offer.
Multi-profile accounts add one more consideration. A discounted subscription is a property of the account, and every profile on it, including kids profiles, shares the plan, so a household code does not need to be entered more than once. The multi-profile page explains how profiles and kids mode work on a single subscription.
Which plan includes coupons
Standard layers
Coupon codes are part of every plan. Stripe promotion codes, the admin coupon setting and the per-plan toggle are in the platform code on every tier; the only requirement is that Stripe is the gateway behind your web checkout. F1 Standard is the web-only plan, with 300 GB of storage and 20 TB of bandwidth yearly; see our pricing page for current plan and pricing details. F1 Standard includes 300 GB of storage and 20 TB of bandwidth yearly for website streaming; see our pricing page for current plan and pricing details.
Pricing & billing
F2 Super includes 300 GB of storage and 20 TB of bandwidth yearly, and adds native Android and iOS mobile apps; see our pricing page for current plan and pricing details. F3 Premium includes 1 TB of storage and 10 TB of bandwidth monthly, and adds Android TV and Fire TV apps; see our pricing page for current plan and pricing details. F4 Enterprise includes 2 TB of storage and 20 TB of bandwidth monthly and adds dedicated support to everything in F3; Samsung, LG, Roku and Apple TV apps are add-ons on any plan. See our pricing page for current plan and pricing details.
Annual savings
Plans are flat fees and Flicknexs takes no commission on your revenue; payment-gateway fees are between you and your gateway. See our pricing page for current plan and pricing details. Yearly billing on F1 to F4 costs less per month than monthly billing; see our pricing page for current plan and pricing details. A coupon reduces what the viewer pays; it does not change your plan fee, and Stripe's own processing charge on the discounted amount is Stripe's published fee.
Conclusion: what to do next
Already on Flicknexs
If you already run on Flicknexs, open the plan list and check the coupon toggle on each plan before you publish any code; an offer that silently applies to the premium tier is the most common coupon mistake. Then build the coupon in Stripe with its expiry and redemption cap set, and buy it once with a test card before the campaign goes out.
Choosing a platform
If you are choosing a platform, ask two questions of every vendor: where does the coupon apply, and who enforces the limits. On Flicknexs the answers are the Stripe web checkout, and Stripe. Test a code on a trial account, then try it in a store-billed app so you see the boundary for yourself rather than reading about it later in a support ticket.
Before a rights call
Read the companion pages next. The video paywall page covers what a plan grants and how pay-per-view and rental windows work, the multi-profile page explains how one discounted subscription serves a household of profiles, and the Stripe integration page covers the checkout, plan upgrades and the server-side verification when the viewer returns.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about coupons on Flicknexs.
Yes. Stripe promotion codes, the admin coupon setting and the per-plan toggle are part of every plan; there is no add-on for them. The one requirement is that Stripe is the gateway behind your web checkout, because the discount is applied on the Stripe-hosted checkout page.
Yes. Every subscription plan has a coupon on/off toggle in the admin. Turn it on for the plan the offer should touch and off for the others, and the checkout will refuse codes on plans with coupons off. This is how operators keep a discount off their premium tier.
No. The iOS app sells through StoreKit and the Android app through Google Play Billing, and neither store accepts a Flicknexs coupon. Store offers are configured in the store consoles and are separate from your Stripe codes. Point mobile viewers to the website checkout if you want them to use a code.
Yes, through Stripe. A Stripe coupon takes either a fixed amount in the plan's currency or a percentage of the price. The admin's global coupon field is percentage-based only, so build fixed-amount offers in Stripe and attach a promotion code to them.
Set an expiry date and, if you want one, a maximum redemption count on the coupon or promotion code in Stripe. Stripe refuses the code at checkout once either limit is reached. The admin's global coupon has no expiry, so switch it off manually when the offer ends.
Yes. Stripe coupons carry a duration: once, repeating for a set number of months, or forever. A once-only coupon discounts the first invoice and the subscription renews at the full plan price after that, with no scheduled job needed on your side.
No. Coupons apply only when the Stripe-hosted checkout is the payment route. If your web checkout runs through Razorpay or PayPal the plan is charged at list price. Operators on a regional gateway usually run offers by changing the plan price for a set period instead.
No. Gift cards, stored-value codes and prepaid vouchers are not offered. A coupon reduces the price the viewer pays with their own card and cannot carry a balance or be transferred. For partner-sold access, issue a promotion code with a redemption cap instead.
Yes. Attach a separate promotion code to the same Stripe coupon for each partner, each with its own redemption cap and expiry. Stripe records which code was used on each subscription, so you can see how many signups each partner brought without any extra tracking.
Coupons are designed around subscription plans: the per-plan toggle and the global coupon apply to plan checkouts. One-time pay-per-view charges also run through the Stripe checkout, so test any code against a rental on a trial account before you publish it rather than assuming it will apply.
Stripe shows redemptions per coupon and per promotion code in its dashboard. On the Flicknexs side, the subscription revenue report by month shows the discounted cohort's revenue against full-price signups, which is the number that tells you whether the offer paid for itself.
That is the usual approach. Viewer free-trial days on plans are not offered in the platform code, so operators use a once-only Stripe coupon for the first invoice together with free-preview minutes on titles. The viewer still enters a card at checkout, which keeps the cohort honest.
